What you learned from your audience feedback?

How did the audience in the cinema react to your video?

The wordle was used to show the different words that the audience connotes whilst watching my music video. This highlights that the audience understood the concept of my music video because it was set outdoors with a happy message. The message was clear to the audience, as they used these words to describe it.

The written views that people in my class had about my music video, which had negative and positive opinions. This was done to give feedback from everyone's music videos in my class. This was useful to  know and understand when they fet we went right and wrong.

Views on my video

How could/would you change your product in relation to this feedback?

As the song was upbeat, my peers felt that I should have used more locations. On contary to this feedback  is that the season was changing from Autumn to Winter, so we could not go to as many places as we wanted to. Also, there were too many protest/strike so travelling became impossible. As we originally wanted to film mostly at Kensington Gardens. This was difficult to go for long because the equipment needs to be returned for another class to use.
There was a comment about my music video having too many kissing scenes because they felt that the target audience were slightly to young to see so much kissing in one music video. They felt it was too explicit. Therefore, I would change some of the kissing scenes for embraces with the couple. This allowed me to realise that the couple did not always have to kiss to show that they are in love. I could have varied this with having more hugs to show the affection between  the couple than kissing.

What I have Learnt?

I feel that A2 media involving the ancillary texts and music video, which has progressed my skills that I learnt at an AS level. I have learnt how to more layers around on Photoshop to duplicate an image or text for my digipak. Also, I had a lot of floral shapes, which could cause the program to crash. So, I had to 'Merger' the digipak to compress the memory size.

Whilst making my music video, it is vital to be organised because if someone is not into a more specific. It causes turmoil, as the schedule can become delayed. Furthermore, I used the application 'Handbrake' to compress any video I needed for my feedback /interviews into an i-pod/i-pod touch file. This is compressed into a mp4 file, which can be small enough to be uploaded onto blogger.

My skills in using the camera for handheld (stedi-cam) filming improved because I understood that you need a very steady hand for holding the camera. For example, I used tracking in the movement of Katherine and Damon's feet as they walk to meet each other in the middle of the pavement.

I felt more confident using the Mac in general as I gained a more complex knowledge about have to access my folder on the 'Media Server' by pressing 'Command' + K' to upload my work on my own area workspace named 'Juliana Amaa' on the desktop. This enabled me to save my work from my advertisement and digipak onto my own workspace because I did not need to rely on the video drive, too heavily. As if someone is using it I could still access my work from whatever Mac I was using on that day.
I learnt that I could not save my digipak and advertisement on Photoshop as a PSD file because it is not compatible with Blogger. This meant it had to be saved as a JPG file.

Evaluation: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research planning and evaluation stages?

This will be present as a video explaining all aspects of media technology.

The Apple Mac was used to type up my work on blogger, upload my video onto the computer. Also, to make all the adjustment to my music video using the program 'Final Cut Pro' an editing software. The canvas replicates the 'programme' monitor in such systems, where the edited material is viewed. The 'timeline', where media are cut together into a sequence, replicates the edit of th music video.

I used it research music videos that influenced and take screen shots of the direct links to video that complement my music video, which I used in my evualation. In terms of research on you tube, vimeo etc. Also, I had to research a shortlist of possible music videos I would like to use.

I used Blogger keeps my online diary of my work through the research forVlamdir Propp ideology and Andrew Goodwin theory, in terms of which aspects apply to thesong my group and I chose. Also, planning was vital to make sure I stuck to the time I had to shorlist the songs and do my audience task and to explain why I chose the song 'These Words' by Natasha Bedingfield. Furthermore, the evaluation was completed on Blogger which documented and reflected upon all the planning, researching etc from the beginning of this coursework to the end.

The video camera was used to make the music video. This allowed me to experiment with the camera by doing some of the shots hand-held.

I used 'Google' to  research videos that influenced my music video, find concepts that linked with my video and to planning my video's ideas. Also, it was very useful for upload music videos from 'Youtube',which has a direc link from blogger to access.

I used this program to edit my music video because it help me understand that the lip-synch had to be on time. However, if the singing was out of synch, it can make the editing go out of time. This did cause some problems but I did overcome this.

I used Photoshop to make my digipak and advertisement. Also, I made my flowers using 'Custom Shape Tool' for my digipak (design above).

This is a screenshot of my animatic, which has already been embedded onto my blog.

I used handbrake to convert any videos that I needed to upload into blogger had to be small enough to fit onto an ipod/ ipod touch, which compresses into a smaller file to go onto the blogger. If this is not done the video file would be too big and would not upload onto blogger.

Evaluation: How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipaks and advertisement)

How effective is the combination of your main product (video) and ancillary texts (digipaks and advertisement)?

The link is the flowers because in the video it has a strong tie with the advertisement and digipak. As I created flowers using Photoshop's program to design them. This is a reoccuring theme in my ancillary texts and my video because it is effective for linking with the genre of the song being pop.  This connotates the link of flower linking in with love and responding to the stereotype that flower emphasise
Emily Bloom's femininity.

Also, the use of bright colours throughout the ancillary texts links to the audience appeal for the video, too. This shown through the vibrant connection of the video using outdoors locations being parks etc. Also,  the colour used primarily is yellow which is feature throughout the ancillary texts.

There are several close ups and mid shots throughout the video and this concept is carried into the ancillary texts. As I used the same close up photo of Emily Bloom for the digipak that is used in the advertisement. This creates links to the audience recognising the artist that is featured in the video, which helps the audience to remember who the artist is.
By watching the video it will help  the audience in recognising the artist. The advertisment reinforces the cross-promotion (synergy) and evoke them to buy album. They work together to help the audience's demographic of young girls aged 10-14 to buy into the brand name of Emily Bloom, which encourages femininity and connotates the power of love.

How can your audience recognise them as linked products?

The audience can recognise these products with the font 'Chalkduster' from Photoshop that will  be associated with Emily Bloom, which is a fun and informal font. This relates to the young audience that the products are primarily aimed at.
My advertisement incorporated the date the album will tell the audience what day the album will be released and a small picture of the CD's digipak front cover. The reason, I added the small picture of the digipak is to allow the audience to be able to still recognise the CD in the store, which Rihanna uses in her advert too. This familiarises my products with them (especially with the use of flowers).

How successful do you think your main and ancillary texts are?

I felt that my digipak use of the floral designer made on Photoshop was ver successful  because it was a motif that links with advertisement. This made my main and ancillary texts go together and it works hand in hand.

The use of yellow, green and white throughout my main and ancillary texts were successful as it achieves a strong visual link. As the audience will be able to make a clear link which strengthens the cross-promotion of my main and ancillary texts in terms of identifying these colours to relates with the video.

The use of the book in the video was successful which can be ambigiously of love and beginning of the music video (when the book opens), the symbolism of love and the start of beautiful love story between young lovers.

The advertisement and digipak uses the font 'Chalkduster' from  Photoshop reflects a more fun side of love, which works as for the audience's demographic of 10 and above. This font illustrated that love is not all heartbreaking but can be happy, too.

Do you think your target audience would be attracted to them? If so why? If not, why?

The bright colours may encourage that target audience to watch the video, thus it will make the audience go and buy the album after seeing the advertisement.

I think that my target audience of young girls in their teens and younger will be attracted to my products. As it suits their age, where the video conveys a narrative that is not too strong but still allows them to see how growing up can change girls- realising they had emotions (i.e being love) they never knew they had. Also, the advertisement would attract them as it relates to my pyschographic feature of  the person (links with the blog entry- Audience Task One) I am aiming this product at. This shows a great sense of young femininity as the colours are bright and they are the future generation-  where life is always look s bright and optimistic.

On the other hand, I think some of our target audience may find the kissing/intimate scenes too much as the couple do show their affection a little too often throughout the video.

Also, the target audience may not be attracted to the video because it may seem to some girls that it is too  girly for them. As the vibrant colours for some girls is not fair representation of what every girl believes in, which pigeon-holes girls into the subgenre of pop without an opinion.

I feel that the target audience may not be attracted to these products as they may think it is too repetitive to the styles used in both the ancillary texts (digipak and advertisement). For example, the font 'Chalkduster' could have been used a little less than it was.

Furthermore, the target audience would not be attracted to the the video because I did not use a still from  my music video for to link with my ancillary texts. This may discourage them from linking my products.

For example, this photo (below) instead of the one I did use.

I could have used 'Quark Express' to create and design my advert or digipak, which would make my product look a bit more professional to my target audience than using Photoshop.

Evaluation One: In What Ways Does Your Media Product Use, Develop or Challenge Forms of Real Media Products?

My media product follows the conventions of music video by creating a digipak that links with the video, as well as a magazine advert.

The ideas for my video, challenge the typical conventions of the media products becasue there is more a bit more kissing than should have been. As the target audience are between 10 years old and more.
I was influenced and inspired by music videos (below) that I watched which used various original ideas and shots. For example, I wanted to make the video feel like it was telling a story love- by the use of the book at the beginning (above). The audience I am aiming at will be intrigued by  the story of young love that develops as the videos goes on.

This video has me discussing why I chose these video (below) as my influences.

Bruno Mars 'Just the way you are?'

Natahsa Bedingfield 'These Words'

Eliza Doolittle 'Pack Up'

Savage Garden 'Truly Madly Deeply'

Sonny and Cher 'I got you babe'

Beyonce 'Crazy in Love

Nelly Furtado 'I'm like a bird'

The two stills (above) shows the direct link of using flowers to illustrate love.

My artist having a flower in her hair like Natasha Bedingfield, which links with the video's concept of 'nature' and has a clear link the mise en scene.

The stills (above) shows that I adapted Nelly Furtado 'I am like a bird' and  Leona Lewis's video 'Forgive Me', shows that my artist took the theme to be outdoors having a happy facial expression to coincide with the theme of the song being outside. This conveys my video following the convention of being outside highlighting the theme of summer love.

Similarity between Eliza Doolittle and Emily Bloom is that they both sing around and about. I used this idea to show the realism of my artist being in love, like Eliza songs about packing up her troubles and expressing her love for her partner more, freely.

I was influenced by the colour scheme 'Marina and the Diamonds' 'Oh No!', green, yellow and orange. Though, I initally had this in mind I changed orange to white in the background because in my digipak (below) there is a pattern of flowers, which would be overpowered by the strong colour of orange.

Leona Lewis 'Forgive Me' challenges my digipak by having the font larger as the primary focus of the CD cover. Whereas, my digipak the photo of the artist is vital because seeing the person will link to the same person in the video. This will encourage people to buy it than remembering the name.

I used the floral background in Nelly Furtado's digipak links to my digipak having patterned flowers behind the artist.

The convention of my digipak followed the convention of close up- Beyonce's 'Crazy in love' is similar as the pose (above) has a strong likeness to Beyonce's, which dominates most of the CD cover.

Like 'Sonny and Cher' 'I got you babe'  uses two colours (yellow and white) and fonts. This differs to the fonts in my didgipak by having the font larger as the primary focus. I used that concept but my font was 'Chalkduster' (below) and all my texts was in yellow.
The Saturdays use their website 'The Saturdays.Co.Uk' to advertise their music but makes their audience want to find out more about them, which I found original- slightly unusual. I liked it and use it, however I do not make it as prominent in my advert as the Saturdays did.

I used the mid shot of Pixie Lott being kissed on the forehead by a boy is an intertextual reference. I used this to show a strong link of their relationship, which Katherine and Damon reinact in my music video.
